2024 Spring Cleaning Checklist

As the weather warms up and nature comes back to life, it's the perfect time to give your outdoor spaces a much-needed refresh. At Spa City Softwash, we're here to help you revitalize your home's exterior with our comprehensive Outdoor Spring 2024 Cleaning Checklist. From your patio to your siding, follow these tips to ensure your outdoor spaces are clean and inviting for the season ahead.

1. Clean Your Patio and Deck:

Start by sweeping away debris and dirt from your patio or deck. Use a pressure washer to clean surfaces thoroughly, removing any mold, mildew, or stains. Consider sealing or staining your deck for added protection and a fresh look. Exercise caution when using a pressure washer on your patio or deck, as the high pressure could etch concrete and force water into the grain of wood destroying it’s integrity and smooth finish. Never use high pressure on TREX decking, as it could remove the finish on the synthetic boards.

2. Wash Outdoor Furniture:

Give your outdoor furniture a good cleaning to remove dust, pollen, and grime. Use a gentle soap and water solution or a specialized cleaner for specific materials. Don't forget to clean cushions and pillows, and air-dry everything thoroughly. For extra dirty pieces, consider using a diluted mixture of bleach and dish soap. Apply the mixture, let it dwell on the surfaces, and rinse off with a garden hose. This will mimic a similar process we use to wash homes, fences, furniture, and even playground equipment.

3. Clean Gutters and Downspouts:

Remove debris from gutters and downspouts to ensure proper drainage. Use a gutter scoop or a garden hose to flush out any remaining dirt. Consider installing gutter guards to prevent future clogs. Overflowing gutters could cause water to sit on areas of your home compromising its integrity and leading to leaks, grimes, and stains.

4. Prune Trees and Shrubs:

Trim back overgrown branches and shrubs to improve the appearance of your landscaping and prevent potential damage to your home. Remove any dead or diseased branches to promote healthy growth. The dirtiest homes we clean always have overgrown trees and shrubs contributing to organic growth on the siding.

5. Check Outdoor Lighting:

Replace any burnt-out bulbs and clean fixtures to improve visibility and enhance the appearance of your outdoor spaces. Consider installing solar-powered lights for an eco-friendly lighting solution.

6. Inspect and Repair Fences and Gates:

Check for loose or damaged boards, hinges, and latches on your fences and gates. Make any necessary repairs to ensure they are secure and functional. For dirty plastic fencing, consider using a cleaning solution like the one we described to use on extra dirty furniture.

7. Clean Outdoor Play Equipment:

If you have outdoor play equipment, such as swing sets or playhouses, clean them thoroughly to remove dirt, mold, and mildew. Consider using a cleaning solution of diluted bleach and dish soap to kill organic growth and thoroughly rinse off with a garden hose. Check for any loose or broken parts and make repairs as needed.

8. Organize Outdoor Storage Areas:

Declutter and organize your outdoor storage areas, such as sheds and garages. Remove any items you no longer need and store seasonal items neatly. Maybe consider signing up for one of the Capital Region’s many local garage sale days!

9. Add Finishing Touches:

Consider adding some finishing touches to your outdoor spaces, such as potted plants, outdoor rugs, or decorative accents. These small additions can enhance the overall look of your home's exterior. String edison bulb lights are a trendy addition to outdoor spaces you plan to utilize at night.

With Spa City Softwash's Outdoor Spring 2024 Cleaning Checklist, you can transform your outdoor spaces and create a welcoming environment for the season ahead.
